july and august 2010
at the beginning of july, i mixed three tracks for a singer/songwriter from germany called mario alsleben. mario comes from eisenach in eastern germany but spends a lot of his time in poland. he travelled over to eastbourne for three days for the mix.
next up was a kids album for integrity music. this was a fast turnaround project, and very enjoyable. i travelled to winchester for a day, and recorded the band and kids singers live on saturday 17th july.
live kids album recording in winchester for integrity music.
the following week, i mixed a christmas album with producer nigel hemming for vineyard records. that was a bit bizzare mixing christmas songs while the sun was shinning in the middle of july.
also in july i mastered an album for a band from brighton called 'The crave'. the album was mixed by my mate dave lynch at his bat box studio in lewes, sussex. don't confuse 'the crave' from brighton with 'crave' from northern ireland whose album i produced a couple of months ago. musically both bands are really similar though.
at the beginning of august i was back to the integrity kids album. i travelled back to winchester on monday 2nd, for some overdubs, and was back in eastbourne in the shack on the tuesday starting the mix. i brought in pro-tools editing ninja dan thorpe for a few days to help out. while i was mixing in one room, he was preparing and editing the next track in the other room. by saturday the album was finished.
the trouble with bringing in dan to help out is when he goes you miss his help big time, so when i headed off to record the 2010 newday live album on august 9th near norwich, dan was with me to help set up, and back in the studio editing when we got back after our week away. i have the feeling he's going to be around on a lot of my projects from now on.
i took a few days out from the newday album and scott mckeown from 'crave' travelled over from norhtern ireland for some songwriting. we'd been talking about getting together for ages, and finally managed to get some dates that worked for both of us. we recorded 2 demos. one was a song he'd already written, and the other was a song i'd started and scott helped finish off. it was a great 3 days hanging out even if nothing ever becomes of the songs we wrote.
towards the end of august, matt redman popped in for a day to record some vocals for a duet he's doing with chris tomlin for chris's next release.
